Heel Pain

Conservative Care for Your Best Heel Health

Heel pain is one of the more common and painful foot conditions our expert podiatrists treat. The tricky thing about heel pain is that many of the causes of pain in your heel mimic each other. If your podiatrist does not identify the correct problem, they could be wasting your time and your money; worst of all, they could be doing more harm than good. This is why it is so important that you take the time to find the best podiatrists to diagnose and treat your heel pain. If you have heel pain, contact The Podiatry Center for experienced heel pain treatment in Bethesda, MD, and Springfield, VA.

Heel Pain Causes

Heel pain is typically the result of an overuse injury called plantar fasciitis – more commonly known as heel spur syndrome. A bone spur is not always present and when it is, 99% of the time it doesn’t actually cause pain. The pain is the result of inflammation of the plantar fascia – a strong ligament that runs from your heel to your toes.

“But I don’t remember injuring my foot..?” It’s okay, most people don’t. You just wake up one day feeling 20 years older than you are. It could have been prolonged standing at the Peanut Festival or wearing the wrong shoes to church. Something triggered it.

Will My Heel Pain Ever Go Away?

Absolutely! At The Podiatry Center, we have developed a comprehensive heel pain program to alleviate your pain once and for all. The good news is, with appropriate treatment, the pain will resolve 95% of the time without surgery. The bad news is we can’t predict how fast you’ll respond to treatment. We do know that the longer you wait for us to start your treatment regimen, the longer it will take to resolve.

What Makes The Podiatry Center Good at Treating Heel Pain?

Our foot and ankle specialists see heel pain patients every day. We go beyond the standard treatment and use advanced techniques such as ultrasound guidance for steroid injections to improve accuracy and reduce discomfort from the procedure.

Is Surgery Necessary for Heel Pain?

Let’s say your pain remains after advanced conservative techniques. Surgery can certainly be considered, especially with a success rate of 90-95%. Alternatively, because we know most people want to avoid surgery, we invested in ESWT shockwave therapy to bridge the gap between failed conservative care and surgery. ESWT is a form of shockwave therapy that is non-invasive; it stimulates new blood flow to the damaged area that starts the healing cascade with no cutting, no complication, and no downtime.

If surgery is elected, then we’ve got you covered. Most procedures are performed outpatient in under 30 minutes and allow you to walk that day in a protective device. Within two weeks, the majority of our patients are back in sneakers.

Don’t let heel pain stop you from enjoying life. Our friendly foot doctors are available to serve you.
